Hybrid Rocket Engine
For this research project, I worked with friends from high school to create a hybrid rocket engine from hardware store materials. The fuel grain was 3D printed ABS plastic, and the oxidizer was gaseous oxygen. We also created a few other fuel grains, ranging from rolled up newspapers to melted and cast gummy bears, though we never had the opportunity to test them. At the advice of professionals from the Tripoli Rocketry Association and the National Association of Rocketry, we stopped working on the project after the completion of our first static fire due to the hazards of building and firing amateur hybrid rockets. As a result, we picked up the Battle of the Rockets competition instead.
